The perianal Fistula Research Program within the IBD referral centre of UZ/KU Leuven is coordinated by colorectal surgeons Gabriele Bislenghi and André D’Hoore and gastroenterologists Séverine Vermeire and Bram Verstockt. The centre established a weekly multidisciplinary perianal clinic dedicated to the medical and surgical management of patients suffering from perianal Crohn’s disease. The IBD Leuven team is also actively engaged in clinical trials with investigational compounds for (perianal) Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis patients. In addition, the team supervises the IBD translational lab at KU Leuven which studies the pathophysiology of this debilitating condition, ultimately aiming to improve therapeutic approaches for perianal CD.
